Additional recruitment to the Doctoral School of Humanities beyond the limit of places
Project description:
The project aims to comprehensively identify the external and internal conditions for the protection of archaeological heritage in forest areas, taking into account the integrated participation of various stakeholder groups. At the same time, the archaeological heritage from forest areas is not protected in a sufficiently effective manner, which results from the lack of developed and proven forms of cooperation between State Forests employees and archaeologists and the failure to take into account the contribution of local communities to the integrated protection strategy for this type of heritage. Additionally, although the protection of archaeological heritage in forest areas is implemented under a number of legal acts and administrative solutions, no in-depth analysis of the coherence of existing regulations has been carried out so far.
The project intends to address the following:
(1) Is it possible to reconcile the activities carried out within the framework of forest management by the State Forests National Forest Holding with the activities of archaeologists aimed at identifying and then protecting archaeological sites in forest areas? (2) What forms of activities are undertaken to protect and popularize archaeological heritage in forest areas? What is the contribution of individual stakeholder groups to these activities and what is an effective and efficient strategy for the protection of archaeological heritage in forests?
(3) How to effectively educate local communities about archaeological heritage in forest areas?
The project will primarily use social research methods and their tools, but also various comparative methods. The case study will be three forest districts from the Greater Poland Voivodeship, selected on the basis of survey results (CAWI) and the results of the analysis of the size and diversity of identified archaeological heritage resources in their area. In-depth interviews (IDI) will be conducted in selected forest districts, including: with archaeologists, employees of institutions related to the protection and education of archaeological heritage, employees of the State Forests National Forest Holding, residents, as well as surveys (CAWI and PAPI) in schools and with residents.
The obtained results will constitute an important element enriching the state of knowledge about the archaeological heritage in forests, which will bring tangible benefits to cooperation between archaeologists, foresters and the local community, and consequently contribute to the protection and use of the culture-forming role of archaeological heritage in forest areas. They will also be applicable to forest areas located throughout the territory of the Republic of Poland, which is extremely important due to the huge potential of the so-called forest archaeology, which is undoubtedly the future of Polish archaeology, creating scientific and research opportunities for many archaeological institutions.
