Postgraduate Studies in Teacher Training for English Language Teachers (SPKNJA) at the Faculty of English at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań cater for individuals who wish to obtain pedagogical and didactic competence to work as English language teachers in Polish primary and secondary schools and have achieved a proficiency level in English from B2 to C2.
Graduates of the SPKNJA postgraduate studies at the Faculty of English acquire qualifications to teach English in the appropriate types of schools specified in the Ministry of National Education regulation of September 14, 2023, and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education regulation of July 25, 2019. A person who holds a master’s degree, a postgraduate diploma, and an appropriate certificate confirming the level of proficiency in English at level C1 acquires the qualifications. The required level of English proficiency for full qualifications is C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The list of certificates is presented in the Regulation of the Minister of National Education of August 1, 2017, on the specific qualifications required of teachers (Journal of Laws of August 24, 2017, item 1575).
During the studies, students acquire knowledge and skills in psychology, pedagogy, and English language didactics. They also complete internships in Polish primary and secondary schools. Additionally, students learn about the latest trends in teaching different age groups and familiarize themselves with the culture of English-speaking countries.
Target audience
The SPKNJA is intended for graduates of master’s studies in English philology or related fields. Candidates should have an English proficiency level of B2 to C2. To obtain full qualifications to teach English, a certificate confirming knowledge of the language at level C1 is required.
Study program
The studies last three semesters and are partially conducted remotely. During 412 hours of classes (lectures and exercises) and 150 hours of internships, students study the following courses:
